RSA Authentication Manager — the Key SecurID Authentication Element
The RSA Authentication Manager software is managed by the security or network manager and used to:
- verify authentication requests sent by Authentication Agents,
- issue authenticators (tokens) to users,
- establish and enforce a security policy that protects access to network systems,
- define user types and group membership,
- create user access logs,
- define and report emergencies, for example, repeated unsuccessful attempts to access protected resources.
Authentication Manager runs on the following platforms:
- Windows NT/2000/2003,
- Sun Microsystems, IBM and Hewlett-Packard.
Authentication Manager comprises three main components:
- user, token, and protected resource information databases,
- an authentication engine that uses data provided by Authentication Agent software,
- an administration program with a graphical user interface that allows Authentication Manager management, i.e. assigning tokens, establishing user rights and rules for access to protected resources, reporting, etc.
The RSA Authentication Manager software is available in two versions that support solutions with different characteristics:
- Base Edition — for centralized structures (e.g. a company with one office)
- Enterprise Edition — for distributed structures (e.g. multi-site organizations)
Differences between Base Edition and Enterprise Edition:
- Base Edition — the licence covers 1 primary and 1 replica server,
- Enterprise Edition — the licence covers 1 primary and up to 10 replica servers.
